Counter Strike Source Binds

When playing CSS there are lots of factors that make you better then other people. Composure is an important part of gaming, taking your time to do something and make sure its done right. That shot in the upper body or waiting for the opponent to pass over your cross hair. But composure and patience are just as important as speed. Having the ability to do something quickly often means the difference between defusing the bomb or being able to arm a pistol right after unloading a full clip from your M4A1.

The way that gamers increase their gameplay through CSS and several other games that allow it, is through the use of binding keys to commands. Making macros in effect that perform tasks with a single button. Instead of having to cycle through 3 icons to arm your primary weapon, you can use a single button like caps lock to do it. I have spent many years gaming with Counter Strike Source and as you can see from the list below this is what I believe is the best layout for keys and buttons.

The binds and scripts allow me to buy my whole arsenal of weapons in less then a second and ensure that I can quickly arm the weapon of choice quickly.

Firstly, these are just what I use when playing and are by no means the best. I have changed many of the default buttons, just because they are either uneccessary or annoying.

WASD are still used for game movement and spacebar is jump as usual.

But, this is where everything changes.

Q - Is toggle crouch

ALT - Arm Grenade

CAPS Lock - Arm Primary Weapon

Mouse3 - Arm Pistol

F - Arm Knife

V - Crouch Jump

 

All of my number keys are buy weapons for the beginning of the round. Now as a beginner or even an experienced player, many gamers will not know how to take advantage of the commands that enable you to create these scripts that increase gameplay speed.

The basics is actually quite simple. All you need to know is the alias for the commands you wish to use for your bind.

A basic example of a very simple bind is to bind a button to say something in game. This can be achieved by typing this directly into console. (The console is usually opened by pressing the tilda or ` button on the left of the 1 number button on the keyboard).

 

bind "n" "say Hello World!"

 

This binds the button 'n' to force the game client to say 'Hello World' every time you press it. You can only have one bind per key but you can make additional commands by separating them with the semi colon.

We know that the general format is:

bind <"key"> <"command">

An example of adding additional commands would be when buying items at the beginning of the round.

Using the following bind will allow you purchase an AK47, Ammo and armour.

bind "buy AK47; buy primammo; buy vesthelm"

I used this for many years and highly recommend it. It is very easy to install, safe and allows you to create your binds automatically through the keyboard setup in game.
