Default Rifle grenades: Good or bad?

Ive been playing DOD source for a week or two now, and I cant seem to find any advantage to having rifle-mounted grenades as opposed to the normal kind you just throw. One disadvantage to having these is that you cannot throw the grenade on the groud and pick it up. I used to toss the grenade right in front of me and pick it up to start the 3 seconds off so when i did throw the grenade there would be less time for the enemies to run away from it.

As far as i can tell a well aimed grenade will go just as far as a rifle grenade, especially if you run and jump as you are throwing it. It would seem that this new grenade system is not as good as the old one. (to me anyways)

The rifle grenade is better than the thrown one in certain situations.

It can be launched miles. If you are on a long range map (which you should be anyway, being a rifleman) which doesnt really have short ranged fighting, then rifle launched grenades are extremely effective. They can travel much further then the thrown ones, and are much more accurate (In DOD you must look at a 60/70 degree angle to get a good throw. Not much use if aiming for a specific target).
In close quarters maps the rifle grenade is not much use, considering that loading it into the launcher loses you valuable seconds, which could mean death (especially if an assaultsman is 3 feet away from you).
Anyway, being a rifleman in a shortrange map isn't really a good idea. M1 garand is semi automatic but considerably weak compared to automatic weapons. The whole point of the launcher is to get a targeted shot against your enemy (a machine gun post, for example) in order to take them down without fully revealing yourself. That isnt so easy with the handheld, especially if they are at a long range.
